Have you heard about the festival Navratri? Hindus regard the festival of Navratri with great significance and is usually celebrated throughout the country in several ways. But the dates of the festival change somewhat each year based on the Hindu month of the lunar calendar. The festival usually starts on Pratipada – the first day of the Hindu month Chaitra (March/April) and again in the Sharad (September/October).
During the Navratri, nine goddesses will be worshipped over the nine days. Nava – means nine and Ratri means night. This explains the nine nights of festivities and one of the most important features of the festival is the practice of charity.
Many social workers get involved in social welfare practices and support several families and people. Rakesh Rajdev and Rupalben Rajdev from Gujarat are among such people. They are from Rajkot, Gujarat. They are the founder of many businesses and a social welfare organization.
The couple do a great job in organizing the special events. This year, they organized an event during Navratri. Since the coronavirus spread has decreased and people are getting back to normal, they organized an event to bring new hope to the children.
Rakesh Rajdev and Rupalben Rajdev also wish to educate the children about the specialty of the festival of Navratri combined with some fun. The Goddess Durga is worshipped as the epitome of feminine energy and power. Also, the couple think that it is important for the Indian kids to know about Maa Durga and that’s why Navratri is celebrated.
Those who celebrate the festival will worship the nine incarnations of Goddess Durga even though it is celebrated for different reasons in the different areas of the country. Since Goddess Durga is a feminine energy, it is believed that young girls are a form of her. Fasting is also the essence of the festival and also holds a special spiritual significance.
Rakesh Rajdev and Rupalben Rajdev organize different special events each year and this year they planned an exciting day at the Fun World Amusement Park in Rajkot. They invited thousands of small kids who don’t have much money to visit such places.
These kids were treated with free rides and all the sweets and snacks that small kids love were also provided. It includes cold drinks, popcorn and ice cream. The donations were offered to the kids in memory of the late mother of Rakesh Rajdev– Vimlaben Rajdev. Also, the kids loved every minute of this celebration. Some of the girls also did the traditional Garba dance in response to the DJ’s music. It is also a symbolic dance that celebrates the feminine form of divinity. The name of the dance is the Garba which comes from the Sanskrit word Garbha which means Womb. Also, the dance was performed by the girls and women in a circle around a clay lantern.
